Growth Mindset

Carol Dwek's words really resonated with me because I have been taught to challenge myself by my parents for as long as I can remember. Growing up with athletics, I knew I needed to be better than I was. Although I was told not to compare myself to others, I could not avoid the comparisons in my head as I saw my competitors at the games. I worked twice as hard as anyone on my team so that I could compete at a higher level and being the best on the field was not goo enough for me, I needed to be better than anyone in the other fields as well. This led to me being captain of a state championship winning team.
In a personal note, I wake up every morning with a set of daily tasks that I look forward to accomplishing because I believe they will better me. In fact, part of the reason why I chose to study Biology is because it was consistently the subject I scored lowest in. When Dwek was speaking in the videos, the only thing I could think of is how every day I push myself to be uncomfortable and how maybe she should allow people to take a rest from time to time too.
