Wikipedia Trail - Week 12

I followed the link to the class Twitter account and scrolled through the feed until I happened upon something that caught my eye. It only took a few seconds to decide that I wanted to learn more about the Devil's Pulpit!

So I got on Wikipedia and stumbled upon this very specific and short article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_Pulpit

Turns out, the Pulpit is a part of a larger "Dyke" that is the border of modern day England and Wales. The dyke is known as Offa's dyke: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offa%27s_Dyke

I then got interested as to who this "Offa character was. Turns out he was an old king of Mercia who ruled for about 40 years! Offa was known to be power hungry and was generally disliked by historians: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offa_of_Mercia

But what is Mercia!? This took be far back because I honestly did not know much about the history of the British Isles before their imperialist days. Mercia was a kingdom of the seven English kingdoms and its people got their name because they were so close to the Welsh border, thereby dubbing them the "border people" or Mercia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercia
