ExtraCredit Reading - Week 11

These stories are interesting to say the least. It seems as though there is a parallel here to the structure of Adam and Eve. The creation story begins with a human's fall from grace. Except this human exists among the "sky people." The first of these people to fall from the heavens was the chief's daughter who, by no mistake of her own, fell by accident. The animals below her in a world of purely water began to question how she would ever survive. The true earth below was so far gone that not even the best divers could fetch it and therein lie the problem. So for a short while a turtle grew to provide land for the woman and expanded to create all the land on earth. When the turtle becomes restless earthquakes occur.
This thought has spurred much popular thought and concern, especially with the rise of flat-earthers recently. The other stories in this reading series also discuss the impact of animals on our natural features. This is a very compelling and interesting faucet of thought from the Native American culture here. They seem to share a love for animals and their features that is nonparalleled within other cultures.
